From another rabbit forum I'm on - please read!

I have a problem... I volunteer at the local animal shelter and we are bursting at the seams with bunnies. There are 42 of them as of yesterday, and it seems like we're getting 3-5 strays picked up off the streets each week.

Irvine is a Low Kill shelter, but the strain of the amount of animals and the lack of adoptions now put the City in a difficult position, it has been suggested that the older residents and those that require constant medical care are now in jeparody of being put to sleep to ease the population space for more adoptable animals.

So the call goes out to residents of Los Angeles & Orange County CA, or anyone associated with a Rabbit Rescue group for help, we have quite a few pairs and old residents (1+ Years) that need your help. I may only be able to take 1-2 home for bonding and that is really pushing it legally for the amount of animals allowed in my residence, but unfortunately there are other cute long time residents that are being eyed for retirement. And the only reason that they are looked over is due to that they are of larger breeds, or paired up with another rabbit.

Irvine Animal Care Center has a pet screening policy that is good for the welfare of the animals they adopt out, but it also limits the potentials that may not like the hassle. The requirements are simple though, 1) If Renting, Proof that you may have animals in the residence, 2) Everyone at the residence must be at the shelter to ensure that no-one member is "Allergic"

If anyone in the LA & Orange County CA are is interested in a rabbit or two, I urge you to make trip to the shelter and check out my fluffy friends, Especially 'Glendora & Propel', she's a big lump of a rabbit, but loves attention, at one point she had flopped next to me and we took a nap in the rabbit yard.

Even if you don't take one of the long time residents, any help in reducing the rabbit population would be helpful.

Help save my long eared friends if you can.

a tale of 2 bunnies

I know I KNOW , no two bunnies are alike. I get that but...

I have a bun and my boyfriend has one. We live next door to each other and the buns are kept separate most of the time. Occasionally he'll bring his bunny to my house for a play date. The bun's have a very similar life. Both are male and fixed. They have the exact same diet. Both live with a cat. They are as different as night and day (which is funny since one is white and one is black).

My Bunny is overweight. His bun is lean and mean. My bunny sleeps all the time, even when he's not in his cage. His bunny is very active.. nearly hyper-active.

His bunny has to be in the same room as the people. He loves to interact and play with humans. My bun will stay under his favorite chair for hours and hours, coming out only to eat and poo. He doesn't mind if I crawl under there with him for a cuddle, but he rarely comes looking for me.

My bun has no interest in toys, wether store bought "bunny toys" or phone books and cardboard boxes while his bunny LOVES that stuff and will amuse himself for hours.

My bunny is dirty all the time. I actually had to bathe him recently. I know it's not a good idea, but he left me no choice. My boyfriends bunny is very clean. He never stinks.

The only real difference I can see is that my boyfriend lets his bun run around the house all night and cages him while he's at work during the day. My bun spends the night in the cage and most of the day free (but sleeping under his favorite chair.)

So my question: Should I worry about the health of my dirty, fat, lazy rabbit? I love him to peices and spend lots of time petting and brushing him. He gets NO excercise and I suspect the reason he's so stinky is that he too fat to clean himself properly!

Help Houdini Escape!

Houdini needs to be rescued
The Rabbit Haven is once again asking for your help in rescuing a precious bunny on death row at a local shelter. He is such an effective escape artist that the shelter cannot place him in their special show cages, so the public cannot see him. Houdini is a very alert, smart and healthy bunny. He is also gorgeous, with beautiful facial markings. This cute fellow is stuck in a shelter cage right now facing death due to space concerns. He has a few days, not much more.

Houdini has already been neutered. He likes to come up to you and say hello and he likes to be pet on his forehead. The shelter cages are metal and make a loud sound when opened so the rabbits at the shelter are always frightened. He seems uncomfortable and wants out of his cage. A shelter advocate said "It took me a while to pick him up, so I used one of my own soft blankies to comfort and to hold him. As soon as I held him he was like a big baby. I believe he loved being held in a soft blanket." He has black and white wiskers with a black moustache just like his famous namesake. Houdini is an absolute joy, and he just wants to be able to go home.

Can you help save his life? His time at the shelter is growing short, he only has a few days left. If you can help him, please call us. Call Auntie Heather at 831 239-7119 if you think you can help.
See pictures at: http://therabbithaven.org/houdini_appeal.html

Wonderful News: Albus SAVED!!!

March 15th

Adorable Albus, desperately needing rescue, was rescued by The Haven this evening just in time! He had been in a shelter for over six months, and was now facing euthanasia. His time at the shelter was almost done, he was living on borrowed time. The shelter notified us about his plight, and we immediately started looking for a way to get him out and safe. Haven volunteers notified rabbit people all around the world about Albus by posting on MySpace, Craig's List, LiveJournal, BinkyBunny, The Lagomorph Lounge and other bunny web sites. The messages of encouragement we received were much appreciated!

The Haven was finally able to get him out. He was transported by Connie on very short notice!. Thank you Connie!!!! Albus was surprised to see her, yet calm. He was very curious. He just kept looking around taking it all in. The car ride didn't even seem to bother him. We were all so paniced all day, worried as he sat there at the shelter all day still at risk! But, the shelter manager helped, and as soon as she could get there Connie whisked him away - to love and safety.

Then, like magic, his forever home was found - Blessings to Sweet David who loved him the minute he first looked at him. David read about Albus on Craig's List, and decided that he would offer Albus a permanent home as his very own companion bunny. He saved Albus! It was just meant to be. David also has lots of exotic birds and eventually Albus (after we neuter him) will be considering a companion of his own! Such great news!!!!! Even after suffering the loss of his Father In-Law yesterday, David was still able to find room in his heart for Albus.

Thank you everyone and especially David for providing Albus a loving, special home and to Stephanie for helping cover the expenses of his neuter. Thank you to everyone who offered Albus a home, some from as far away as Canada. Thanks to Connie for transporting and Erin, Valerie and Ray for posting for urgent help! Losing Albus was just NOT going to happen. Tonight I hear Albus is slowly exploring, and trundling about checking out his new space, loving his new dad. "Hey there is really good food here" he says! "What!!! No cold metal cage and no barking dogs? I think I am in bunny heaven! Ahhhhh and I get such good pets from my Dad. Oh this is just GREAT!!!!!"

Death Row Plea: SAVE ALBUS

Please help Albus
Albus has been sitting in a local shelter since August of last year, and now his time is almost up. He is on death row, and has very little time left until he is put down.

He was a happy, frolicy boy, but now he is just sad and so lonely. Does anyone have a nice big place for him with their family? He uses a litter box well and loves hay and toys! The Rabbit Haven will cover his neuter expenses if you can provide a loving home for him.

Please help save his life! He is in immediate danger at the shelter. Be compassionate, this Easter -do not buy a pet store bunny- instead, save a life.
Call Auntie Heather at 831 239-7119.

You can see photos of Albus on our Tribe Profile Page!

It's been brought to my attention that there has been discussions on the tribe about a certain meat-rabbit-breeder who has recently made the news. Those giant bunnies may be cute and cuddly-looking, but they are not companion rabbits. Since it turns out that I'm the moderator, I must point out that according the the spiel at the top about this tribe, it *implicitly* states that there is to be no discussion on breeding rabbits in this tribe, and although it may be in the public domain as a news-worthy article, it is still off topic and banned.

All further discussions about breeding rabbits, as with discussions on rabbits as meat or rabbits as fur, will be removed.

I've posted here other times under the name "Erin" so I'm not TOO much of a stranger. We hope we'll make a good member to this tribe, offering advice and posting information about rabbits and rescue opportunities. Thank you so much for this fabulous opportunity! Check out our profile and please be our friend! Go rabbits!

Faulty Water Bottle

My poooor little sweetbunny.

I often hear him drinking out of his water bottle during the night. One night it sounded a little different. It wasn't the bottle itself that sounded different it was ... his enthusiasm... how fast he was drinking maybe. Hard to describe because it was just a subtle difference. So in the morning I looked at his water bottle and it was half full so I figured I was imagining things and I went off to work.

That evening while I was cooking dinner I heard it again and went to investigate. It was still half full so I touched the little metal ball and it was DRY!! I tapped it a few times and nothing came out. I couldn't beleive it. I took it to the sink and dumped out the water, refilled it and gave it a little squeeze and it was fine. Poor Bunny drank from it for like 10 minutes straight and nearly emptied it in the next 8 hours!

That was a few weeks ago and now I'm paranoid. I check it every day and often squeeze it just to be sure. Good thing I do because sometimes it dry again.

Do these things wear out over time (it's about 9 months old)? It's LIXIT brand, are there better, more releiable brands out there? (BTW my b-friend also has a LIXIT brand and it leaks constantly).

My partner and I have 6 house rabbits:
Phoenix (New Zealand White)
Zen and Shino (Sisters - NZW crosses)
Pagan (NZW cross)
Cookie (Himalayan)
Foster (Mini Rex)

We love them all dearly!

I have OOOOODLES of information about rabbits - anatomy, care, etc.....from work and from numerous continued education courses I was required to take. Let me know if you'd like to take a look!

Fighting Rabbits?

I thought I would put this out to the tribe, I already emailed Severina a while back.
I have two male neutered rabbits that were found together so they are bonded.
I have had them for about 8-9 months. Once they were fixed, they were fine. Then last month they got into a fight, one got a cut on their inner back leg, it tripped me out a little, and there was blood all over my apartment, like some bad horror movie.
I kept them separate for a while. Things seemed fine until just about 20 min ago. I let them run around the apartment building hallway, to give them some exercise. I check up on them all the time when they are out in the hall. Well I looked out in the hall; some new person who just moved into the build was just standing there watching them fight, which pissed me off to no end. There was fur all over the hall.
I am trying to figure out why they are fighting? I do not want to keep them separated because when one is in the Cage, the other one sits and hangs out with him. I also do not like keeping animals in a cage. I am also afraid I will come home and one of them will be really hurt.
So, does anyone have any suggestions?

Anyone have suggestions for homemade treats? I've done some stuff in a food dehydrator - apples, carrots, pears, bananas....any other suggestions?

thanks!

Leaving him with total strangers, in a strange place for 3 whole days? Bringing him home with fewer body parts? Will he ever speak to me again?

They deserve our support! So please come out to help them. You never know what you might find--furniture, toys, jewelry...you name it!!!

Dirty Rabbit!

It's me again. I seem to be the only person to post on this tribe! Well, I appreciate everybody's help so far. I am enjoying bunny ownership SO much!

Next question: How to clean a dirty dirty rabbit. I know that full-on baths are not good. I tried it once before reading that I shouldn't and he was very upset about the whole ordeal. He didn't "speak" to me for days.

So now I have this little rabbit who want to jump up on the couch but his little white feets are yellow with pee and he has a big glob-o-poo stuck to his butt (excuse the graphic-ness). I tried "spot cleaning" but; for the feet, they just get stinky again within a few hours, and with the glob, well, it's gonna take more than that to get it off.

What do I do?

And before anybody tells me about diet and globs... We fed him some lighter colored lettuce that didn't agree with him, caused soft poop. As soon as we stopped feeding it to him the problem went away, (except of the part that's still stuck there). And yes his litter boxs and cage are all kept very clean. He's just a slob!

Thanks in advance for your helpful advice!

reposted from email. please feel free to repost and circulate. Thanks, Alex

San Francisco Animal Care and Control (ACC) and Save a Bunny/Marin House Rabbit Society, the rescue group, are experiencing a sudden and overwhelming influx of rabbits, most of them dumped by former owners. In fact, as of Wednesday, August 9, there were 19 rabbits at ACC, six of whom WILL have to be euthanized for lack of space if ACC doesn't find foster or permanent homes for them soon!

Primarily because of the rabbit rescue group, which is run by the indefatigable Marcy Schaaf, ACC has NOT had to euthanize a rabbit in three years. That's quite a record, but they've reached the breaking point. Please spread the word, forward this message, and consider caring for a rabbit yourself if you are able and willing to accommodate their needs. They typically get along fine with most other pets.

Please call ACC at (415) 554-6364 to see if you or someone you know might make a good rabbit adopter or foster "parent." ACC's kennels are open noon to 6 p.m. daily (till 7 p.m. Wednesdays). They're located at 1200 15th St. (at Harrison).

Thanks,

Bill Hamilton (for ACC)

I'm feeling SO guilty right now. This past weekend and all of this week has been/will be really really busy for me. Meanwhile both my son and my boyfriend are out of town which means the Bunny is alone and locked up in his cage all day, everyday. Last night I got home at midnight and was completely exhausted but I stayed up for an extra half hour so he could get out and play a bit.

I can tell he's bored silly. Are there any toys/things that you can put in the cage to keep them entertained while you're away? (like a hamster wheel) I plan to let him out for the majority of next weekend, but until then the poor little guy is locked up :(

Rearranging the cage

Bunny has a new hobbie and it's driving me nuts! Over the past week or so he's taken to rearranging al of the items in his cage... in the middle of the night....loudly.

He has two corner litter pans. He used to sleep in one and pee in one and other wise leave them alone. Now each night he pulls them off the cage and dumps them upside-down or stacks them on top of each other.

He used to have a hay bin but he kept pulling it off the cage and scattering the hay all over.

If he could find a way to drag the water bottle down I'm sure he'd do it!

The cage is cleaned regularly. There's plenty of fresh litter. There's a few toys and a small cardboard box.

The problemis A.) The noise, all night long and B.) What a mess! I don't mind changing the litter in the pans once a day but it's all over now! I don't have time to clean out the entire cage every day.

Things to chew on

Hi all. It's me again. Thanks for all your help so far. Things are going really well. Bunny is bonding with everyone in the family (except Franky) and we all just LOVE him (except Franky).

My next question/concern:

At first he chewed on newspaper and cardboard, but now he won't touch it. I got him a little toy but he's not interested. He chews on the wire rungs of his cage and the paint is starting to flake off of his favorite rung. I've looked at the house rabbit site for some suggestions but he's not interested in any of that. I give him cotton towels and he pees on them. He always has hay but he won't leave it in the bin, he spreads it all around his cage and pees on that too.

I'm a little afraid of wood because I don't know what's toxic around here. (At hand we have mango, kukui, avacado, rubber tree). I'm also leary of baskets. How do you know if they've been treaded or sprayed?

He likes the plastic covers from blank CD packaging. I saw these hand made grass mats at the flea market. They were supposed to be potholders. Wonder what he'd think of those? I have no idea what kind of grass they are, if they're treaded or pesticided.

SOOOO, What are you bunny's favorite (safe) things to chew?

hello. there seem to be a lot of foods that are bad for bunnies or should be used in moderation. everywhere seems to say something different. so far the only commonality is that they should always have hay and should have fresh hay everyday (that's right isn't it?). is there anything else that they should have everyday? what about things to have once a day? once a week? what about these bunny food pellet things?

Ok, next question:

I've been reading up on bunny ownership and a lot of sources suggest cardboard boxes for playing and newspaper for burrowing. My bunny eats both of these and that doesn't seem right.

We have pine "litter" in his cage and he digs down to the plastic and keeps scratching so I can see he wants something to burrow in.

I am a new member, from the states (Mississippi) and just got my first house bunny. Actually, my first rabbit ever. Don't know how I lived this long without one. There is so much to learn, and I have read a few books about raising house rabbits, but this is way better. My rabbits name is Jinx, so of course you guessed she is totally black, and she is half Lop and half dwarf. She is 6 months old, lives with 2 cats, and they get along great. I can't believe I have been on Tribe all this time and never thought to look for a rabbit tribe! Anything else you need to know you can find in my Bio. Thanks for being here. :)

Trail Mix for rabbits

One of my newest hobbies is creating trail mix for my bunny. I serve it to him with a large serving of greens and other veggies. I start with rabbit food (pellets) and then I mix in lots of dried fruits...especially banana chips and raisins. I add lots of nuts (some in shells). Then I add dried corn, seeds, a few pieces of broken pretzels and some dry whole wheat pasta. I include a few rabbit treats as well. He really seems to enjoy it and I enjoy making it. Any comments on the nutritional value of these ingredients? Any ideas of other good odds and ends to add to my trail mix?

And then brroke my own heart!
Here's the sad story:

For the past two weeks or so my son and boyfriend have bee spotting a rabbit hopping about the yard. I was starting to think they were nuts (there are no wild rabbits on Maui) when I caught site of him. OHMYGOD! He's so unbleivably cute! It took about ten minutes of coaxing but I caught him, bathed him and gave him some lettuce.

He was skinny and injured but SO HAPPY to be caught. He snuggled right into my shoulder and nibbled on my ear. I've never owned a rabbit and honestly I always thought they were ...um... boring. Cute, but not as interactive as a cat. I was wrong. This little guy doesn't like to be left alone, he loves to sniff noses and he go's crazy when I get out the lettuce. He likes to be held and pet, but does not like baths and he has this little trick of kicking water into your face if you try to bathe him.

Now the sad part. I brought him to the pound this morning. I have two cats who would not approve of another pet in the house. And I don't really have time for him myself. I spent an hour picking up pellets this morning (he peed in the litter box but the pellets are everywhere!). So I did "what was best for all of us".

He was in my house for what 15/16 hours, he's been gone for about 4 and I MISS HIM! I almost cried when I left the pound and I can't stop thinking about him. I wish I had a picture. I wish I had another day off to hang out with him.

I am sad. Just thought I'd share with people who would understand.

(reposted from another tribe)
I am a volunteer with The Rabbit Haven in Santa Cruz, CA. www.therabbithaven.org/

Rabbit Haven will be involved in rescue on Monday (1/16) afternoon and we urgently need your help. The 10 - 20 rabbits are being housed in inhumane, filthy conditions and the authorities have determined they will be euthanized unless they are rescued tomorrow afternoon.

We are *desperate* to find some foster or adoption solutions to save these rabbits ASAP. We can arrange transportation within California or even outside of the state.

We are unsure exactly how many rabbits are effected at this point, we expect there could be several litters of babies. The rabbits are of various ages, breeds and sizes. We know they are frightened and in need of emergencies homes tomorrow!

Foster set up with cages and supplies may be available. If you can help in any way with your time, rabbit accommodations or donations (food, litter boxes, enclosures or money with the vet bills) of other resources.

Please contact Heather at 831-239-7119 (after 9:30 am) or email her at hrb_ava@pacbell.net

We appreciate any support or help you can provide!
(please repost if you can)

The North Georgia Chapter of the House Rabbit Society has recently assisted in a rabbit cruelty case involving approximately 156 rabbits. The state Department of Agriculture was initially alerted to a breeder who had supposedly “fallen on hard times” and was not feeding or caring for the rabbits. Approximately 20 rabbits were already deceased at the scene, with a few rabbits being humanely euthanized for progressed illnesses. Many rabbits were emaciated and appeared to have skin and ear infections, and advanced upper respiratory symptoms. These bunnies were being kept outside in breeder type cages, approximately 12” by 12”, with no protection from the harsh winter time mountain elements.

Volunteers with the area’s local SPCA and a local veterinary clinic were able to collect and treat almost 50 of the rabbits. They contacted our chapter of HRS and we are currently housing 23 of those rescued rabbits. A volunteer with the SPCA is able to hold the rest in a barn until we can work together to place them. An Atlanta area Animal Control Agency took the remaining 87 rabbits to be euthanized. However, the agency will try to care for them and place them for adoption as best they can.

We are working hard to place the rabbits that our chapter has been able to pull from this original group. They are currently being housed in temporary foster homes around Atlanta until transports can be coordinated. Our chapter will be keeping some of the rabbits that we now have from this group, but obviously we will need to move rabbits to other HRS chapters and screened rabbit rescues around the country. The more transport assistance we can arrange, the more rabbits we can save. Potential placements are just about everywhere and more potential locations are being added daily.

ATTENTION!
If you are driving ANYWHERE over the holidays or in the next few weeks and would be willing to transport rabbits with you, please contact the North Georgia Chapter of the House Rabbit Society: www.houserabbitga.org, or call our hotline: 678-526-8884.

A few good destinations include:
Kanab, Utah
Denver, Colorado
St. Louis, Missouri
Kansas City, Missouri
Las Vegas, Nevada
Los Angeles, California
Washington, D.C.
Asheville, North Carolina
Miami, Florida
Memphis, Tennessee
Phoenix, Arizona
Flagstaff, Arizona

ADOPTIONS
If you are interested in adopting one of the rabbits, please contact us regardless of your location. Many different kinds are available, including Lionheads, Jersey Woolies, Holland Lops, Rexes, and Dutch breeds. All have been screened and are in good health. Many have been spayed or neutered. Please also let us know if you are willing to foster.

DONATIONS
If you would like to make a donation to help in our efforts to care for and/or place these rabbits, you can donate through our paypal account on our website at the below link: http://www.houserabbitga.org/volunteeropps.html

If transport cannot otherwise be arranged, a volunteer with the North Georgia Chapter of the House Rabbit Society has agreed to make a cross country trip to bring animals to Best Friends in Utah and the Colorado House Rabbit Society. Donations will be used for transportation and accomodation costs.

Kitty Litter problem

My bunny has started kicking kitty litter out of her tray. Not all of it, just some of it. But it's making a mess.

I haven't changed the brand of kitty litter since I bought her (I've had her for nearly 2 years) and the litter is always fresh when she kicks it out of the tray.

Why is she doing this?

Introductions, Please!

Hi everyone! This is the thread for all new members to say a quick hello and introduce their bunnies and themselves!

My name is Cassandra/Molly, and with my housemate we own two little adopted bundles of madness. We live in a good-sized flat in inner suburbs Melbourne, Australia, and our bunnies live in the lounge room in a large 'bunny mansion' constructed of "quick shelving cubes" (or whatever those things are called!) and have a run of a third of the room, with time to run around the rest of the house when they want to.

Kyoko, otherwise known as Queen Bunny or Madam Mischeif, is top bunny out of the two. She's a medium sized 'bitzer' bunny, who was born from a litter of a bunny rescued in Bayswater. She loves to jump, be groomed, shred paper, explore and gambol around. Rubi is an adorable little Himalayan Dwarf, who was abandoned by his first family at the vets before being fostered and eventually bonding with Kyoko and being adopted by us. He is much more cautious and shy, and fill follow Kyoko rather than searching out new territory himself. He loves to eat Asian greens and apple, tidy up their mansion (hey! who moved my stuff?) and sleep in front of the heater when it's cold.

We've only had them for just over two months, but already they're so much a part of our household. Pippin, our budgie, doesn't interact so much with them rather than sit *above* them and talk at them, which seems to keep him entertained! Often, he'll push the rabbits toys around, only to have Rubi or Kyoko bound over to put the toy back where it was, making it all the more exciting for Pip. All said, they seem to get along quite well!

Thanks everyone who advised me on how to get my boy Bunion's bowels back in order. He is now on the oxbow products exclusively and has no diarrhea.
He and Dori are doing very well.
Thanks everybunny!!!!!!

Hello new friends from Bunion and Dori

I have two dwarf lops, a bonded pair. Male neutered Bunion and female Dori.
My question is with Bunion who almost always has a messy bottom with stool plastered to his backside. The vet says he seems healthy enough but I am concerned that he has a mild chronic diarhea.
Has anyone had anything like this with their bunnies?
He is an otherwise healthy guy but may be a little on the tired side.
Thanks for all replies.

cage bound

Okay my dwarf rabbit has been with me for about two years (I had him since he was two years old he is four now), in the last 10 months, he started to be cage bound.

I'm not sure if it is because I'm at work all day, and he is in the cage and that he has been acclimated to the cage. The cage is roomy, and his food and everything is there.

When he was a teenager 2 plus he would run out of the cage as soon as I got home and run around the apt as a curious kid. Now he is no longer interested in coming out.

When I'm home, the cage door is open and he hardly ever comes out. When he does come out, he runs under the bedroom shelf.

Does anyone have familiarity with this behaviour?

Rescued Baby Rats in SF

Hi Everyone,

I am foster mom for 17 gentle & tame baby rats. ALL are ready for adoption now. I have hand-raised them; they are tame, brave, and REALLY do not bite. They even like to cuddle and be petted. Various colors; creams, browns, plus several black, brown or cream hooded. They have had a check-up from the doctor and are healthy and sound. Ages range from 6 weeks to 4 months.

All of them get along (luckily, one positive outcome of their early confinement), and rats do make better pets as groups, so please consider adopting 2 or 3 together (boys or girls). I am in SF very near Animal Care & Control, which is where all of these siblings/cousins were dumped on Wednesday Dec. 15th.

You may have read about the surrender elsewhere. [On Dec. 15, 178 rats (yes 178) were dropped off at San Francisco Animal Care and Control.] Please adopt 1 or more of my little guys! I am available for adoption visits most days; $10-20 donation adoption fee, incl. neuter if needed, through SFACC. e-mail me to arrange for a visit. Photos available on request, although they are growing so fast i can't keep up! Better just to meet in person. e-mail me at amonk1@juno.com

Hi everyone,

My dwarf rabbit has run of the the house, I never lock her up in her hutch. Her hutch is located in the corner and holds her litter tray and food. It's never been moved since I first got her.

The problem is that she is now starting to go to the toilet in places other than her litter tray. I have floor boards so it's not too difficult to clean up - but that's not the point.

Does anyone know 1) why she's suddenly not using her litter tray all the time (she still uses it most of the time) and 2) how I can get her to stop doing it in places other than her litter tray (I don't want to have to put the lid on the hutch - I liker her to have her freedom).

Thanks for your help.

Welcome everyone to the Companion Rabbits Tribe! Created to complement the Australian House Rabbit Society's email list, this tribe is open to house/companion rabbit owners world-wide. A place to share stories and photos, ask for advice, etc, etc - in fact, if it's to do with house rabbits, it's welcome here!

Please keep everything as civil as possible and flame wars are not encouraged. Discussions on rabbit welfare/rabbit cruelty are welcome as long as they do not blow out into squabbles. Discussion and questions about rabbit adoption, fostering, rescue, shelters, and so forth are also welcome.

In the interest of the humane and ethical treatment of our Lagomorph friends, this is NOT a tribe for the following:

* Rabbit hunting
* Feral wild rabbits
* Breeding rabbits for commercial usage or gain
* Usage of rabbits for food
* Any other topic irrelevant to the care, protection and ethical treatment of house/companion rabbits

Topics should be marked O/T when off topic.

Thank you for joining and I hope your long-eared friends and yourself enjoy your time here!
